DxO's cutting-edge optical module now supports 9 new lenses
DxO Labs, the company that pioneered optical correction for digital photography, has completed a detailed analysis of nine new lenses and added them to the list of supported devices.
DxO software (DxO PhotoLab, PureRAW, ViewPoint, FilmPack and Nik Collection) gives photographers access to over 77,000 camera and lens combinations for unrivaled photo quality.
Because each new optical module is created from an individual camera and lens combination, rather than just the lens itself, photographers get corrections tailored to their specific equipment. As a result, DxO offers the most complete and high-quality approach to optical correction.
The latest update is now available and includes the following lenses:
● Canon RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM
● Nikkor Z 28-75mm F2.8
● HD Pentax-D FA 21mm F2.4 ED Limited DC WR
● HD Pentax-FA 31mm F1.8 Limited
● HD Pentax-FA 43mm F1.9 Limited
● HD Pentax-FA 77mm F1.8 Limited
● Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | C
● Sigma 35mm F2 DG DN | C
● Sony E 11mm F1.8
Marie-Catherine Fargnoli, Head of Product and Lab Manager at DxO, explains: “We are committed to enabling photographers to get the best from their equipment and we are delighted to add these nine new lenses. DxO has never used off-the-shelf lens corrections and no other software company can match the results we achieve through our lab work.”
Twenty years of innovation
Nearly 20 years ago, DxO created the world's first lens correction technology in its unique, dedicated laboratory. Today, DxO's optical modules continue to lead the industry in quality and precision.
What makes DxO's calibration so good?
Rather than evaluating the lens alone, DxO evaluates the lens and camera together to come up with a unique set of characteristics. This type of customized optical correction has two significant advantages:
● DxO Optical Modules evaluate 100% of the pixel area as the true capture area. Other solutions (including those from camera brands and competitor software) reduce optical distortion but lose resolution. DxO Optical Modules preserve up to 10% more pixels compared to competitors.
● With a proprietary lens sharpness algorithm, DxO offers tailored adjustments and corrections across the field of view of each lens. Unlike the standard lens library used by other software, sharpening here is applied in varying degrees based on the unique characteristics of the lens. For example, sharpening is increased at the edges of the composition to balance subtle variations in radial softness.
The DxO Optics Module also corrects the following defects to standard levels:
Vignetting
Geometric distortion
● Vertical and horizontal chromatic aberration
What's more, DxO's optical module is the only way you can get distortion compensation - a unique technology that restores the natural proportions of a scene or subject in photos distorted by wide-angle lenses. This means you can safely use shorter focal lengths when taking group photos (especially weddings) or landscape and architectural photography.
