New choice for industrial laser applications: ams and OSRAM launch new green laser with high brightness, high performance and high reliability
• The perceived brightness of green lasers is four times that of red lasers used in traditional industrial equipment;
• The new PLT5 522EA_Q green laser is available in a TO56 package and is compatible with driver topology technology;
• With a maximum operating temperature of 70°C, high reliability and long service life, PLT5 522EA_Q provides the preferred solution for laser visualization design.
China, April 7, 2022 - ams Osram, a leading global supplier of optical solutions, announced the launch of the new PLT5 522EA_Q green laser , which is suitable for applications such as level measurement, scanning, bioscience and dot projection. Compared with traditional red lasers, it is brighter, easier to use, more reliable and more cost-competitive.
While the industrial performance is comparable to that of red lasers,
the PLT5 522EA_Q
achieves for the first time a perceived brightness that is four times that of red lasers. This green laser has been rigorously tested for lifetime and reliability, with a maximum operating temperature of 70°C and a lifetime rating that meets the standard requirements of industrial equipment manufacturers.
Thomas Brandes, Senior Marketing Manager at OSRAM ams, said: “ Green laser beams are more visible than red laser beams, which means they are preferred by users in industrial applications such as construction, surveying and long-range scanning. The introduction of the PLT5 522EA_Q enables manufacturers to replace red lasers with green lasers without affecting any aspect of the product design.”
The new laser uses a TO56 metal package, which is compatible with the commonly used driving topologies for red lasers. It is easy to use and requires minimal modification to existing product designs.
Unlike red lasers, PLT5 522EA_Q does not require baking, and the photodiode it uses is suitable for application scenarios that require eye safety.
Green laser has obvious advantages
The PLT5 522EA_Q is an edge emitting laser (EEL) with a tightly controlled beam, with a peak output power of 20mW, a typical peak emission wavelength of 520nm and a spectral bandwidth of 2nm. The laser can be used in CW or pulsed mode.
amsOSRAM provides technical support to customers to assist in integration into the final product design. Support provided includes drive integration, optics, thermal assessment and application-specific lifetime calculations.
Samples of the PLT5 522EA_Q are available now from authorized ams OSRAM distributors.
