According to reports, Samsung Electronics of South Korea recently released the world's first 0.8um-class image sensor     with 64 million pixels . This is Samsung Electronics' challenge to become the world's number one in the field of image sensors after Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong recently announced the goal of "becoming the world's number one in logic chips by 2030" . Currently, Japan's Sony occupies 51% of the image sensor market, and is the overwhelming leader, followed by Samsung Electronics.

As smartphones are generally equipped with 5-6 camera lenses, the demand for image sensors has also increased significantly. In addition to smartphones, image sensors are also installed in electronic devices such as self-driving cars, security system cameras, and smart TVs to accurately sense changes in surrounding conditions, and the market is expected to continue to expand. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and fifth-generation mobile communications, experts predict that the image sensor market will develop to a level comparable to the current memory chip market (US$163 billion) by 2030.

Can Samsung Electronics, which has taken the lead in the high-definition image sensor market for smartphones, surpass Sony's image sensors? Industry insiders said that this is a battle that can be won, judging from the two companies' research and development capabilities, core industries, and the possibility of achieving economies of scale.
