On July 19, at the Aspen Security Forum held yesterday, 14 major companies in the AI field, including Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Amazon, Nvidia, and Intel, announced the joint establishment of the Coalition for Secure AI (CoSAI).
CoSAI, hosted by the OASIS global standards body, is an open source initiative that aims to provide all AI practitioners and developers with the guidance and tools they need to create and design secure AI systems. CoSAI will build a collaborative ecosystem to share open source methods, standardized frameworks and tools, and more.
CoSAI's founding sponsors include Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Nvidia, and PayPal. Other founding sponsors include Amazon, Anthropic, Cisco, Chainguard, Cohere, GenLab, OpenAI, and Wiz.
CoSAI will initially work towards achieving three goals:
Developing Best Practices for AI Safety
Meeting challenges in the field of artificial intelligence
Ensuring the security of AI applications
The scope of CoSAI’s work includes securely building, integrating, deploying, and operating AI systems, with a focus on mitigating risks such as model theft, data poisoning, hint injection, scale abuse, and inference attacks.
CoSAI is an open source community led by a Project Council, which is responsible for advancing and managing its overall technical agenda, and a Technical Steering Committee, composed of AI experts from academia and industry, which oversees its workstreams.
Google Vice President of Security Heather Adkins said in part:
AI has been under development for many years, with the continued potential it offers defenders, while also recognizing the opportunities it presents to adversaries.
CoSAI will help organizations large and small integrate AI safely and responsibly, helping them leverage the benefits of AI while mitigating risks.
