[ October 13 , 2023 , Munich , Germany ] As a global semiconductor leader in the fields of power systems and the Internet of Things, Infineon Technologies AG provides solutions for the digital world that continues to set new standards . Infineon and Adidas jointly developed the Lighting Shoe . This innovative and smart Adidas Originals NMD S1 shoe is equipped with high-end sensor technology that can sense the music and beats in the environment and then present different programmable lighting effects. The audio information is converted into dynamic colorful LED effects on the shoe through a microphone and microcontroller.
As a prototype shoe, Infineon Lighting Shoe vividly demonstrates the application effect of the most advanced semiconductor technology in fashion products. Thanks to the high-quality XENSIV™ MEMS microphone, this shoe can "hear" the tiniest sound signals. An integrated PSoC™ microcontroller handles audio input. The EZ-PD™ Barrel Connector Conversion (BCR) solution combined with high-efficiency OptiMOS™ power MOSFETs enables the shoe to be charged via USB-C Power Delivery (PD). The adidas Originals NMD S1 features a perfect fit and enough space to place highly sensitive technical components inside the shoe without compromising comfort.
With this prototype shoe, Infineon and adidas demonstrate how technology can be combined with fashion. Adam White, President of the Power and Sensing Systems Division at Infineon Technologies, said: “Contextual Awareness through Intuitive Sensing enables devices to rely on technology to hear, see or feel. The use of IoT devices has become easier. The Infineon Lighting Shoe shows how to bring technology and digitalization closer to people. We are very honored to launch this innovative cooperation with adidas.”
Burkhard Dümler, Director of Innovation at Adidas, said: “Innovation and performance are the core driving forces of Adidas. The innovations we create must shock, transcend the norm, surprise and above all, be fun. With this Lighting Shoe prototype, we Together with Infineon we have successfully achieved this, showing how to create digital products where technology and fashion go hand in hand.”
