Atmosic and Nichicon are collaborating to develop energy harvesting solutions for compact IoT components, with Nichicon's lithium titanate rechargeable battery (SLB) technology and Atmosic's ATM33e series of Bluetooth energy harvesting SoCs targeted for wearables and Bluetooth devices Designed. It integrates an Arm Cortex-M33F microcontroller, 1536MB non-volatile memory and 128KB RAM.
"We look forward to continuing to work with Nichicon to leverage our energy harvesting technology in a wide range of customer applications," said Paul Davis, vice president of product management at Atmosic.
The SLB connects directly to Atmosic's SoC and uses harvested energy for charging, eliminating the need for a separate power management unit (PMU). Rechargeable batteries feature a large number of discharge cycles (~25K cycles), low temperature operation and higher power density than similar models.
"Nichicon is committed to reducing the environmental impact of technology, including the growing issue of battery waste," said Craig Anderson, president of Nichicon Americas.
SLBs are resistant to puncture and damage-induced burning and are available in a variety of form factors, including 5x5mm, 7x7mm QFN packages and ultra-small chip-scale packages (CSP).
