Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Akamai), the intelligent edge platform for delivering secure digital experiences, recently announced that it has been named a leader in IDC's MarketScape: Worldwide Commercial CDN 2019 Vendor Assessment. As a leader in the report, Akamai was recognized for its market reach, capabilities, and innovation in areas such as web performance, media delivery, cloud security, and network operations for its global CDN (content delivery network) infrastructure.
"Most CDN providers are refocusing their efforts on the edge to meet the new demands of live video streaming, security, and IoT," said Ghasan Abdo, research vice president at IDC. "Akamai is a leader in delivering edge services, providing content delivery services to a large number of enterprises around the world, and has comprehensive solutions and service offerings in web performance, media delivery, cloud security, and network operator solutions."
To compile this report, IDC identified and examined eight providers that offer CDN services worldwide based on size and scope. Based on structured discussions, surveys, and interviews with market leaders, players, and end users, this study evaluates these CDN providers' ability to deliver services and strategies to help customers grow and innovate in the market.
The results of this evaluation recognized Akamai's stable position in the market, its largest market share, and its multiple differentiated advantages, ultimately ranking Akamai as the leader in the CDN market. Specifically, the report highlights the following advantages:

With 130 TB of data, more than 1 billion devices, and more than 100 million IP addresses interacting with it every day, Akamai has extensive threat intelligence and insights.
Media Delivery: Akamai currently has a comprehensive suite of media delivery services and continues to enhance these services in key areas such as live event delivery, managed services, and performance and latency improvements.
Innovation: Akamai continues to expand its services and capabilities beyond CDN and leverages innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning to address requirements in new areas such as IoT, DevOps, and blockchain.
Services Team: Backed by a highly qualified services team and its coverage of multiple vertical industries, Akamai is well positioned to guide its customers in deploying and leveraging CDN and edge services to achieve their full potential and obtain proven business benefits.
