Introduction: Recently, according to the Nikkei report , TSMC will set up a factory with Sony in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The total investment of both parties is estimated to be 800 billion yen, and it is expected to be put into production around 2023 or 2024 .

When TSMC was reported to be planning to build a factory in Japan in July, TSMC said it was actively evaluating the project. Recently, there has been new progress in the project. TSMC and Sony Group have begun discussing the construction of a new factory in Kikuyo, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, adjacent to Sony's image sensor factory.

It is reported that the total investment of the project is 800 billion yen (about 46.144 billion yuan). At that time, the two parties may set up a new company to manage the chip factory, and Sony may hold a minority stake in the new company.

The chip plant will then produce camera image sensors , automotive chips and other products. Denso, a supplier of Toyota Motor Group, also intends to invest in a stake to ensure priority supply of automotive chips.
