Huawei's consumer business continues to grow steadily
In 2010, Huawei sold 3 million mobile phones. Eight years later, this number increased 68 times.
Huawei's tablet, PC and wearable device shipments also achieved healthy and rapid growth.
Hongmeng is born, connecting the future
"Hongmeng OS connects everything and opens up a huge trillion-level market. Choosing Hongmeng is choosing the future," said Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business . "Huawei has long been committed to the innovation of underlying technologies including chips and OS, leaving complexity to itself and simplicity to developers."
Hongmeng OS will be open source to developers around the world. At the same time, Huawei will fully open HMS (Huawei Mobile Services), allowing global developers to quickly access the HMS ecosystem and achieve ecosystem sharing.
Four major technical features of Hongmeng OS
The original intention of designing Hongmeng OS is to meet the high-standard connection requirements of full-scenario smart experience. To this end, Huawei has proposed a system solution with four major features.
i. Distributed architecture is used for terminal OS for the first time
Achieve seamless collaborative experience across terminals
Hongmeng OS's "distributed OS architecture" and "distributed soft bus technology" shield application developers from the difficulty of implementing the underlying technologies of corresponding distributed applications through four major capabilities: a public communication platform, distributed data management, distributed capability scheduling, and virtual peripherals.
It enables developers to focus on their own business logic and develop cross-terminal distributed applications as if they were developing for the same terminal. It also allows end consumers to enjoy the seamless experience brought by the powerful cross-terminal business collaboration capabilities for various usage scenarios.
ii. Determine latency engine and high-performance IPC technology
Make the system naturally smooth
In order to meet the new requirements for OS in the all-scenario intelligent era of the Internet of Everything, Hongmeng OS decouples hardware capabilities from terminals, connects different terminals through a distributed soft bus, allows applications to easily call on the hardware peripheral capabilities of other terminals, and brings consumers a seamless collaborative experience across terminals.
iii. Reshape the trusted security of terminal devices based on microkernel architecture
Hongmeng OS adopts a new microkernel design with stronger security features and low latency.
iv. Support one-time development through unified IDE
Multi-terminal deployment to achieve cross-terminal ecological sharing
At the same time, Hongmeng OS is equipped with a unified IDE (integrated development tool) for multi-terminal development, which can support developers to achieve one-time development and multi-terminal deployment, and ultimately realize cross-terminal ecological sharing.
v. Developer plan and ecosystem construction
Huawei also announced the evolution roadmap of the Hongmeng kernel and OS, and will first use Hongmeng OS 1.0 in the smart screen products launched this year. In the next three years, in addition to improving related technologies, Hongmeng OS will gradually be applied to more smart devices such as wearables, smart screens, and car machines.
