ZigBee smart home is now ready! Get started quickly with reference design!
Recently, I was browsing magazines at an airport while waiting for my flight and I found something very interesting: all the popular magazines on the market, from Dwell to WIRED , seem to have started publishing articles discussing the development of smart homes and future predictions. There is no doubt that the current rapid development of smart homes and connected lighting applications is amazing, but this is just the beginning, and a more connected world is just around the corner.
Lee Ratliff , principal analyst for connectivity and the Internet of Things ( IoT ) at IHS Technology, predicts that connected home device shipments will grow rapidly from 59 million units in 2015 to 193 million units in 2018 , an annual growth rate of more than 48 percent.
According to Ratliff ’s analysis, a good connected home product must have the following conditions:
• Standards-based
• Easy to deploy by mainstream consumers
• Designed to operate in real-world environments
• Ability to solve specific problems with minimal complexity
It's clear that adding wireless connectivity to home devices isn't as simple as it seems. So Greg Hodgson , senior director of IoT solutions at Silicon Labs , is working with his team to help minimize the complexity. His mission: to make wireless design faster and simpler, so developers can produce simple, high-performance, low-power devices. To that end, a new connected lighting, home automation, and ZigBee gateway reference design has just been released .
