News | Renesas Electronics and AVL Collaborate to Provide Functional Safety Support to Customers and Promote Development of ISO 26262 Standard Automotive ECUs

Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, and AVL, a leading company in automotive system development, simulation, and testing, today announced that they will work together to support customers in developing electronic control units (ECUs) that comply with the ISO 26262 international automotive functional safety standard. Based on this collaboration, AVL will provide comprehensive support for Renesas automotive customers in developing higher performance functional safety systems.


Efficiently developing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)/autonomous driving (AD) systems that meet functional safety standards has become a challenge. To this end, Renesas has launched automotive R-Car system-on-chip (SoC), RH850 microcontroller (MCU), power management IC (PMIC), and software solutions for ISO 26262 safety levels ASIL B to ASIL D. However, in order to meet functional safety requirements, the entire ECU system, including semiconductor devices, must comply with the relevant standards. Therefore, even with products such as R-Car and RH850 that meet functional safety requirements, developing ECUs that meet ISO 26262 standards still requires deep system-level expertise.



AVL is well-known in the industry for its hardware and software support for the development of ECUs that comply with the ISO 26262 standard. Through this collaboration, Renesas customers will not only be able to take full advantage of Renesas' cutting-edge safety solutions, but will also benefit from AVL's functional safety expert support to shorten the development cycle of ECUs that comply with the ISO 26262 standard.
