Renesas Electronics and LUPA Collaborate to Launch Open Platform Turnkey Solution to Accelerate Automotive Smart Camera Development
Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, and LUPA-Electronics GmbH, a supplier of automotive safety solutions, jointly announced the launch of an open front camera solution based on the Renesas R-Car V3H and R-Car V3M system-on-chip (SoC) - the EagleCAM module. The integrated and scalable camera platform meets the latest Euro NCAP and C-NCAP requirements, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition. The solution enables OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to integrate their proprietary or third-party software and add more driving functions, thereby achieving product differentiation and upgrade expansion.
Most of the smart camera turnkey solutions on the market currently use a black box approach, which makes it difficult for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to respond to changing market demands and delays the R&D process. With EagleCAM based on R-Car SoC, the open turnkey solution launched by Renesas Electronics and LUPA provides flexible and high-performance perception capabilities, helping customers to accelerate time to market and reduce BOM costs.

Based on the proven Renesas R-Car SoC, EagleCAM supports low-end to high-end front camera applications with surround view, driver monitoring and other functions. In addition to the R-Car SoC, EagleCAM also uses the Renesas automotive power management IC (PMIC) to further reduce BOM costs. With the recent update of R-Car V3H, the new turnkey solution supports up to 3.7 TOPS CNN performance, ASIL-C level performance in the real-time domain, and up to 8 million pixel cameras. EagleCAM uses pre-verified hardware design to shorten the time to meet mass production requirements. Customers can use the high-performance perception stack to shorten the development cycle, or based on emerging technology stacks, achieve the best match for their application needs.
