Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 is 3 times faster than the previous generation flagship Snapdragon 845, and 1 time faster than Huawei Kirin 980 and Apple A12.

Snapdragon 855 chip

First of all, this is Qualcomm's first 7nm process chip, which is smaller in size and has higher performance.

Secondly, this is also Qualcomm’s first flagship chip that supports 5G, which will officially push smartphones into the 5G era.

How does Qualcomm define Snapdragon 855?

Officials said that this is "the world's first commercial mobile platform that fully supports multi-gigabit 5G, industry-leading artificial intelligence (AI) and immersive extended reality (XR)."

Among them, after being equipped with the latest generation of AIE engine, the performance will be 3 times higher than the previous generation flagship Snapdragon 845, and 2 times stronger than Huawei 980 and Apple A12.

Huawei Kirin 980:

  • Process technology: From 10nm to 7nm, the speed has been improved by 10%, the energy efficiency has been improved by 40%, and the density of logic circuits has been increased by 1.6 times;

  • CPU: From Cortex-A73 to Cortex-A76, performance increased by 75% and energy efficiency increased by 58%.

  • NPU: From single NPU to dual NPU, image recognition speed is 2.2 times faster than before

  • Network speed: From 1.2Gbps Cat.17 to 1.4Gbps Cat.21, a 16% increase

Apple A12:

  • The A12 has a six-core CPU, which includes two "performance" cores and four "efficiency" cores. Compared with the A11, the A12 is 15% faster and uses 40% less power;

  • The A12 also has a quad-core GPU, which is 50% faster than the A11.

  • Next-generation Neural Engine, including an octa-core machine learning processor that can process 5 trillion operations per second, enabling real-time machine learning;
