Professor Hu Shimin of Tsinghua University was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences!

The list of elected academicians for the 2023 co-election of academicians of the two academies has now been announced.

As for the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a total of 59 academicians were elected this year, including 8 members from the Ministry of Information Technology and Science. Professor Hu Shimin is among them.

As for the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a total of 74 academicians were elected this year, including 10 from the Department of Information and Electronic Engineering.

In addition, this year's IEEE Fellow list has also been released, and Professor Hu Shimin was selected for his "contribution to computer vision media and geometric processing."

Hu Shimin, Tsinghua University

Hu Shimin was born in Changxing, Zhejiang in 1968. He is currently a professor in the Department of Computer Science at Tsinghua University. His research fields include computer graphics, computer vision and software systems.

His undergraduate alma mater is Jilin University. In 1990, he entered Zhejiang University to study for a master's degree without taking the examination. In 1996, he received a doctorate from Zhejiang University.

In 1996, Hu Shimin entered the Postdoctoral Mobile Station of Computer Science and Technology of Tsinghua University, where he studied under Academician Sun Jiaguang and engaged in computer-aided design research. After leaving the station in 1998, he stayed to teach in the Computer Science Department of Tsinghua University.

He received funding from the National Outstanding Youth Fund in 2002. In 2006, he was hired as the chief scientist of the National Major Basic Research (973) Project "Theory and Methods of Intelligent Processing of Visual Media". In 2011, he was awarded the title of "Feature-sensitive 3D Model Geometry". Processing and Application" won the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award.

China's first deep learning framework independently developed by a university, Jittor , came from the laboratory of Professor Hu Shimin.
