With subscription-based cloud connectivity using public clouds such as Alibaba Cloud or Baidu Cloud, the Internet of Things (IoT) is gradually being integrated into everyday products, and the scope of IoT-driven services is expanding.

Security is always a concern when deploying cloud services, as each device needs to be protected from hacking, data breaches, botnet attacks, and other dangers lurking in the IoT. The keys and certificates used to authenticate cloud connections need to be securely hidden, and any data transmitted by IoT devices needs to be secure during transmission. In addition, security mechanisms need to be scalable so that they can be efficiently deployed at scale, even when manufactured by different OEMs.

To meet this need, NXP offers the A71CL , a security IC that provides high security for IoT deployments of any size. The A71CL is a complete plug-and-play solution that can be used with Alibaba Cloud or Baidu Cloud, providing zero-touch secure connections through mature hardware-based security algorithms, eliminating the need for OEMs to develop, build and maintain their own key management systems.

The A71CL integrates anti-tampering features and is optimized for secure connections right out of the box. To further simplify onboarding, Alibaba Cloud and Baidu Cloud configurations also include pre-injected specific keys. A third customer-programmable configuration is also available, allowing customers to securely and directly set credentials based on their needs; this product is available on demand.

The A71CL is designed to take advantage of NXP's global leadership in many demanding security applications such as payment, logical and physical access and identification (including ePassports).

A71CL is built to enhance IoT security, protecting critical device functions including authentication, data protection, and cloud access. In addition, it ensures software integrity and provides rollback protection, supports service integrity, protects ecosystems, and enables new business models.

The A71CL is capable of operating over an optional extended temperature range (-40 to +90 °C) to support a wide range of industrial applications, and has a long lifespan, offering general purpose storage with a minimum data retention period of 25 years and can be repeatedly erased and written at least 500,000 times.

NXP ensures that products are secure and trusted throughout the entire product lifecycle, from factory to field. The ID ² key is pre-injected according to the license agreement with Alibaba Cloud.

A71CL is “customized and plug-and-play for Alibaba Cloud”, which is the foundation for trusted IoT services, and it takes security into full consideration from the beginning, rather than as an add-on or afterthought.

The A71CL is a complete solution with a comprehensive support package to reduce time to market. NXP also offers additional design tools to help you save time, including sample code for key application scenarios, application notes, and compatible development kits for Kinetis microcontrollers.
