IC Insights statistics on the revenue ranking of the world's top 20 semiconductor manufacturers in 2015 and comparison with 2014
IC Insights, a technology market research organization, released its latest research report on the 10th, pointing out that among the top 20 semiconductor manufacturers in the world in 2015, 5 of them had double-digit revenue growth rates. However, due to the impact of the strong US dollar causing the average price
of semiconductors to decline, the combined revenue of these
companies in US dollars this year is expected to shrink by 4 percentage points. The report shows that based on this year's US dollar exchange rate, the revenue of the top 20 semiconductor companies this year will be the same as last year, one percentage point higher than the average revenue growth rate of the entire semiconductor industry, but if the US dollar exchange rate last year is used, the revenue of these 20 companies has increased
by 4%. According to statistics, the top 5 semiconductor companies this year are Intel, Samsung Electronics, TSMC, SK Hynix and Qualcomm. Among them, Qualcomm's ranking has slipped from 4th place last year to 5th place, but SK Hynix has risen from 6th place to 4th place, squeezing Micron, which was originally ranked 5th, down to 6th place.
In addition, MediaTek's ranking this year has fallen from 12th last year to 13th, which is obviously affected by the fact that Avago Technologies Limited, a supplier of gallium arsenide (GaAs) RF components, has jumped from 15th to 10th. IC
Insights also pointed out that UMC has squeezed into the list from 21st last year and rose to 19th place, directly replacing Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Statistics show that AMD's revenue this year may drop by 28% to US$4 billion, which is much worse than before.
Samsung Electronics' semiconductor revenue has increased dramatically, and the revenue gap with the first place Intel has dropped by 15 percentage points from 36% last year to 21%. If calculated at last year's exchange rate, Samsung's revenue this year is only 11% behind Intel.
In contrast, the revenue gap between TSMC and Samsung this year has further widened from 51% last year to 57%. If calculated at last year's exchange rate, TSMC's gap behind Samsung has increased to 61%. However, TSMC only has foundry business, while Samsung's semiconductor division has foundry and other IC revenues, so it is not accurate to compare the two directly.
After the merger of Avago and Broadcom, their total revenue this year will reach $15.4 billion, enough to jump to the world's sixth largest semiconductor manufacturer, while NXP and Freescale (with a total revenue of $10.2 billion) are expected to enter the eighth place after the merger.
