Analog Devices and Renesas Electronics Corporation, a leading global supplier of semiconductor solutions, will collaborate on a system-level 77/79-GHz RADAR sensor demonstrator to improve advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) applications for autonomous vehicles.

The new demonstration combines two cutting-edge technologies, including the RH850/V1R-M microcontroller (MCU) of the Renesas Autonomy platform and the advanced 28nm CMOS RF-to-bit technology of ADI's Drive360. The seamless collaboration of these two technologies at the system level can detect small, fast-moving objects at a longer distance in advance, thereby achieving safer driving. It will also reduce the difficulty of RADAR system integration and the evaluation risk of automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

"RADAR sensors are critical to any ADAS or autonomous driving function. This collaboration perfectly combines the best resources of Analog Devices and Renesas to achieve high performance, enabling OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to reduce development costs and shorten time to market. We are pleased to work with Analog Devices, whose 28nm solutions provide excellent RF performance for object detection."

The collaboration between ADI and Renesas will be a key enabler for achieving optimal performance in RADAR systems. This innovative system approach will provide customers with system-level digital interoperability, significantly reducing risk. The new RH850/V1R-M MCU combined with ADI's high-performance Drive360 RADAR platform will bring unparalleled performance to advanced ADAS and autonomous driving systems.

ADI Drive360 28nm CMOS RADAR Technology

The Drive360 28nm CMOS RADAR technology platform is built on ADI's proven ADAS, MEMS, and RADAR technology portfolio, which has been widely used in the automotive industry for the past 20 years. Drive360 uses the world's first automotive RADAR technology based on advanced 28nm CMOS, applying excellent RF performance to target recognition and classification, revolutionizing sensor performance for ADAS applications. ADI's high-performance RADAR solution can detect small, fast-moving objects in advance. High output power enables recognition of smaller objects at a wider range, while very low phase noise enables the clearest detection of small objects in the presence of large objects.

Renesas Autonomy Platform and RH850/V1R-M RADAR MCU

Renesas is the industry's only automotive semiconductor supplier that can provide end-to-end solutions from secure cloud connectivity and sensing to autonomous control. Backed by decades of experience and technical expertise, the new Renesas Autonomy Platform is an open, innovative, and trusted ADAS and autonomous driving platform supported by Renesas' sustainable and scalable SoC and MCU roadmap.

The RH850/V1R-M MCU is designed for RADAR applications and is part of a sustainable and scalable portfolio. This new MCU features optimized programmable digital signal processing (DSP) technology, a 320 megahertz (MHz) dual-core CPU, and integrates industry-leading 2 megabytes (MB) of high-speed flash memory and 2MB of internal RAM, while meeting the industry's highest temperature requirements.
