Wireless networks can be divided into two categories: infrastructure-based networks and infrastructure-less networks. The former has fixed and wired base stations, and the nodes (or hosts) in the network receive and send all services from and to the base stations. A typical example of this type of network is a wireless local area network, and the latter is a wireless ad hoc network.
