This paper describes the high-order mode oscillation phenomenon that occurs during the development of an S-band broadband klystron, analyzes possible ways to suppress this oscillation, and proposes a method to suppress this oscillation. This method changes the structure of the resonant cavity, and makes a significant change in the frequency of the high-order mode without substantially affecting the fundamental mode frequency, thereby suppressing the oscillation of the high-order mode. Using Ansoft HFSS simulation design software, the resonant cavity was improved and the corresponding experimental verification was completed. Using the improved resonant cavity, the whole klystron test was carried out, and the oscillation of the high-order mode in the klystron was effectively suppressed.
