Successful Examples and Failed Explorations In the 20th century when the mobile communication industry was developing rapidly, the main driving force for the development of mobile communication came from the demand for random access data services and Internet computing technology. Successful examples of mobile communication technology being successfully transformed into productivity are: 1. GSM: In 1988, Europe used GSM as the pan-European digital cellular mobile communication standard, the US cellular mobile communication industry selected the TDMA IS-136 standard as the replacement of the analog AMPS standard, and Japan determined the 2G digital TDMA standard PDC (Pacific Digital Cellular). GSM\'s global billing, short message service and network layer interoperability have made GSM a dominant force in the global wireless communication market. 2. CDMA: In 1990, Qualcomm first introduced code division multiple access (CDMA) into cellular mobile communications. The US cellular mobile communications industry used CDMA as the IS-95 standard for digital mobile communications. CDMA can provide additional channel capacity, and baseband signal processing can reduce the complexity of mobile terminals. Except for EDGE, all mobile communication standards that have evolved to 3G use several combinations of CDMA as shown in Figure 1. The United States and Japan have decided to replace IS-136 and PDC standards with WCDMA for 3G. 2G IS-95 GSM IS-1362.5G IS-95B HSCSDGPRS EDGEcdma2000-1XRTT 3G cdma2000-1XEV,DV,DO cdma2000-3XRTTWCDMA TD-SCDMA Figure 1 Evolution of mobile communication technology in...
