Tire blowouts are a direct result of frequent serious and fatal accidents, leading to an urgent need for a low-cost, low-power, small and reliable vehicle tire pressure monitoring technology. The emergence of such technology, combined with low data rate wireless transmission, will popularize the use of TPMS through OEM car manufacturers in the next few years. Certain statistics emphasize the urgency of the need for TPMS. For example, Renault\'s statistics show that 6% of fatal accidents on motorways are caused by the sudden failure of under-inflated tires, while a survey conducted by Michelin showed that 30% of drivers in the UK only rely on tire pressure testing services during regular inspections by the garage. However, this is far from enough, because as vehicle reliability improves, the intervals between regular inspections are getting longer and longer, and some of the latest vehicles can now have inspection mileage intervals of up to 25,000 kilometers!
