The IEEE 802.16a standard was released in January 2003. The standard name is: Part 16: Air Interface for Fixed Broadband Wireless Access Systems. Amendment 2: Medium Access Control Modifications and Additional Physical Layer Specifications for 2-11 GHz, which is aimed at 2-11GHz fixed broadband wireless access systems. The second draft of the P802.16-REVd standard was completed in December 2003. It is a revised draft of the 802.16 standard, which supplements the contents of 802.16a and 802.16c and covers the 2-66GHz frequency band fixed broadband wireless access system. It is expected to be officially released in July 2004. The first draft of the P802.16e standard was completed in November 2003, which amended the 802.16 standard MAC to support mobility features in fixed wireless networks. The official draft is expected to be released in 2005.
