In the use of surface mount components in the printed circuit board (PCB) assembly, to obtain high quality solder joints, an optimized reflow temperature profile is one of the most important factors. The temperature profile is the function of the temperature applied to the circuit assembly over time. When plotted on a Cartesian plane, at any given time during the reflow process, a curve is formed representing the temperature at a specific point on the PCB.
