Coax cables with a typical impedance of 50W or 75W areused in many applications to ensure signal fidelity, and highspeedline drivers have the often difficult job of transmittingsignals over these cables or over twisted pair lines. The mostcommon way to drive coax cables is to use driver amplifierswith low-impedance voltage output, which operate witheither voltage or current feedback. Now, however, thewideband OTAs, OPA660 and OPA2662, offer a highimpedancecurrent output, giving engineers more flexibilityand more options. Since both voltage and current outputshave their advantages and disadvantages, engineers canchoose the method that provides the best compromise fortheir applications.
