With the grid connection of renewable energy such as wind power and the implementation of demand response, the uncertainties in the balanced and stable operation of the power system have increased significantly. To cope with these uncertainties, the dispatching system of regional transmission organizations (RTOs) or large power grid companies needs to have stronger advance prediction capabilities based on traditional real-time monitoring. A new dispatching system, Generation Control Application (GCA), is proposed to meet the challenges brought by the grid connection of renewable energy. With dynamic and robust dispatching algorithms and flexible system configuration, this system enables the dispatching system to ensure that the power system has sufficient tracking capabilities to cope with the uncertainty and intermittency of renewable energy and ensure the reliability of large power grid operation.
