With the rapid development of digital technology, more and more devices for digital video compression, transmission, display, etc. are pouring into the market. To select satisfactory products from these products of varying quality, a good set of digital video test equipment is essential. However, at this stage, most digital video signal sources have different shortcomings, such as too few types of test images, no dynamic test source, lack of dedicated test signals, etc. In order to effectively overcome these defects, the author designed and developed a set of digital video signal generators based on FPGA. The whole system consists of two parts: hardware platform and image format conversion software. The hardware platform itself is an independent signal generator that can generate a variety of test images. Equipped with image format conversion software, the hardware platform can receive various static test images and dynamic test sequences from the PC and continuously update the test image library. The whole system has a good hardware architecture, convenient input interface, stable signal output, and flexible and convenient operation, and is easy to upgrade and update. In the development of the system, a variety of hardware and software development tools were used, such as PROTEL DXP, ISE, MODEL SIM, MATLAB, C#. NET, etc. Since the software and hardware debugging are completed by the same person, the whole system has good unity and compatibility. In addition, the author also studied and designed a test signal for H.264 codec compression damage. The performance of an encoder can be evaluated by subjective evaluation or objective evaluation. Among them, subjective evaluation is the most direct and effective. Based on the subjective evaluation method and combined with the guidance of objective parameters, this paper studies and designs a test signal that can easily observe the actual compression damage through the human eye, so as to achieve the purpose of directly comparing the performance of the codec.
