IIC Bus Specification Manual [Copy link]

1992 This version of the I2C-bus specification has the following amendments
: ? The programming of slave addresses by software has been removed because this feature is quite complex to implement and is not used
; ? The slow mode has been removed. In fact, this mode is a subset of the entire I2C-bus specification and does not need to be explicitly specified
; ? The fast mode has been added. It increases the bit rate by a factor of four to 400 kbit/s. Fast mode devices are backward compatible, that is, they can
be used in I2C-bus systems with 0 to 100 kbit/s
; ? The addition of 10-bit addressing allows 1024 additional slave addresses
; ? The slope control and input filtering of the fast mode devices improves the EMC performance.
Note that there are no changes to the 100 kbit/s I2C-bus system or the 100 kbit/s devices.
