802.15.3 (WiMedia) is a wireless standard designed for wireless streaming of multimedia data. It is a high-speed, low-cost, low-power wireless personal area network (WPAN). The concept is similar to the Bluetooth standard, but the speed and distance are far beyond. The data transmission rate of 802.15.3 will be related to the distance. If the device is about 50 meters away from the AP, the connection speed can be as high as 55Mbps. When the distance reaches nearly 100 meters (which is also the longest distance of this standard), the transmission rate automatically drops to 22Mbps. 802.15.3 is a more suitable WPAN than Bluetooth. Its design goal is precisely aimed at the needs of various mobile devices. However, it is not clear about the details of the future use of 802.15.3 products. I hope it will not be as troublesome as the Bluetooth setting. The emergence of 802.15.3 will also make 802.15.1, which was established based on the Bluetooth 1.1 standard, meaningless. The story about IEEE accepting the Bluetooth standard as 802.15.1 can be found here. Finally, I would like to remind you to take a look at the 802.16 technology posted by UGLEE in the past, which is also a very interesting comparison.
