【USB charger DIY】System structure [Copy link]

The whole system is composed of multiple parts, and different modules and devices can be used for each part. Usually there are multiple options for each part. I will give a reference (recommended) device (introduced step by step in subsequent posts). You can also use other devices instead, or even design your own. If you think the function is not satisfied or there is a better way, you are welcome to put it forward.

  • The fast charging module realizes AC220 to USB conversion and provides voltages such as 5V/9V/12V (related to the fast charging protocol, the functions of different fast charging modules may vary). Usually one module provides at least 1A1C.
  • The MCU collects the voltage, current and temperature of the fast charging module through resistors, current sensors and temperature sensors respectively.
  • WS2812 is used to display the charging status, for example, using different colors or frequencies to represent different powers and voltages.
  • OLED can display various parameters, status and other data.
  • Switch the OLED display content by touching the key.
  • The RTC module is used to save time when power is off.
  • The buzzer can use different sounds to indicate the end of charging, failure, hourly time, etc.
  • A small fan can be used for heat dissipation. When the charging power is high and the temperature exceeds the threshold, the fan is started, and it stops after a delay after it falls below the threshold.

Three fast charging modules realize AC220 to USB conversion. Is this a bit big?

Generally, the length and width of fast charging modules are less than 5cm, and the quantity can be selected according to the size of the shell, more or less.  Details Published on 2024-3-1 11:03

The solution looks good, let's take a look at the subsequent module selection.

It is better to use a heat sink. If you add a fan, the volume will be large, and you have to drill holes to design the air duct, which seems a bit difficult.

There are micro fans, 2510 or 3010, about 2 yuan each.  Details Published on 2024-3-1 11:14

The fan is also optional and not required. Most chargers can handle high temperatures without either a heat sink or a fan.

Well, the normal 70-80 degrees should be fine. GaN is too high, but OLED should not be able to withstand high temperatures.  Details Published on 2024-3-1 11:20

The size depends on the number of modules you choose. You can try to reserve some space first.  Details Published on 2024-3-6 21:18
