The EU forces all electronic products to use Type-c interfaces. Are you sure you don’t understand? (LDR Type-c series) [Copy link]

Currently, there are more and more devices on the market that use Type-C interfaces, but not all devices' Type-C interfaces need to transmit data. Most of them only have power supply functions. Today we will look at the application of UFP power chips in electrical appliances.

UFP is an upstream port, which ranks the lowest in the power supply willingness level and only accepts external power supply. Typical products are USB flash drives, fascia guns, AR glasses, etc. Their Type-C interfaces are all upstream ports, and can only be connected to DFP or DRP. In most scenarios, the adapter (DFP) is connected for power supply, that is, it is connected to the downstream port for CC communication.

Here we take the LDR6328 launched by Lederui Technology as an example. The D+D- and CC of the chip are connected to the Type-C female socket. When the adapter is connected, the DFP chip on the adapter end will broadcast the power through CC. At this time, UFP will apply for the required power level. After the PD protocol handshake is successful, the adapter will output the required power.

As the EU has proposed that all electronic devices must support Type-C interface by 2024, more and more devices around the world will adopt Type-C interface in the future. A UFP chip will need to be added to the front end of electrical appliances that require fast charging. The LDR6328 has a very simple periphery, low cost, and good compatibility, making it very suitable for power supply scenarios for low-power devices with Type-C interface.

Type-C supports the PD protocol and can be used as a power interface, which significantly improves the user experience. However, it also brings challenges that have never been encountered in previous product designs. The power line Vbus may be subject to extremely strong EOS energy shocks, including but not limited to cable plugging and unplugging, poor connector contact, etc. Once this energy damages the PD control chip, the entire computer may not be able to boot up.

It is useless to just change the physical interface, the protocol must also be unified, otherwise Apple will still make trouble

Big companies make money from these, it's hard to unify

The Type-C interface has many functions and can be used on both sides. It has strong applicability and is now being used more and more widely.

It is better to unify them, otherwise everyone will have a lot of accessories.

Our country must also formulate mandatory implementation, unify interfaces, and reduce electronic waste
