The first article of reading "The Great Chip" [Copy link]

This book is very good. I can learn a lot of useful chip knowledge. The author's language is also very humorous. Just as "Rome was not built in a day", the same is true for chips. The development of chips is inseparable from the joint efforts of countless people in the world. After reading Chapter 1, I have the following main gains:

1. The difference between semiconductors, integrated circuits and chips: Semiconductors are materials between conductors and insulators; integrated circuits are a type of semiconductor device developed in the late 1950s that integrates a certain number of electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, and transistors through semiconductor technology; and because of the different product types, integrated circuits are mainly divided into microprocessors, memories, logic devices, and analog devices, which are collectively referred to as chips.

2. The reason why semiconductors are suitable for making chips is because they have thermal effect, photovoltaic effect, photoelectric effect and rectification effect.

3. The pioneer of semiconductors is: Fairchild Semiconductor.

4. Moore's Law in the electronics field states that transistor density doubles every 18 months. This also determines the speed of iterative upgrades of chip products.

5. On the world stage of semiconductors, Japan's semiconductor industry once rose rapidly and had an advantage in the international market, but it suffered a heavy blow with the subsequent intervention of the US government.
