Piezoelectric stack application case | Power amplifier drives ultrasonic motor guide motion

With the further development of piezoelectric stacks and piezoelectric related technologies, their application fields have become more extensive today, from the transmission of sound waves to vibration control and sensors. So what are the specific industry applications of piezoelectric stacks? What role does the power amplifier play in them?
First, let’s start with ultrasonic motors.
Traditional motors use electromagnetic cross forces to obtain motion and torque. This method will affect the normal operation of the motor when used in an environment with large electromagnetic interference.
Ultrasonic motors use the inverse piezoelectric effect and ultrasonic vibration of piezoelectric ceramics to obtain motion and torque, converting the microscopic deformation of the material into macroscopic motion through mechanical resonance and friction coupling. Therefore, in this type of motor, the piezoelectric ceramic material disk replaces many copper coils.
As a new type of micromotor, ultrasonic motors have a wide range of applications, from optical instruments, automobiles, industrial machine tools, precision instruments, office automation equipment, medical and biology to the aerospace field. As early as the end of 1995, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory first used linear ultrasonic motors in a multi-function crawling system to inspect the outer wall of a spacecraft.
This time, we built an ultrasonic motor drive system and provided industry-specific solutions.

ATA-4315 High Voltage Power Amplifier Driving Ultrasonic Motor Experimental System
Experimental process:
1. Experimental platform setup and instrument connection
2. The input impedance of the signal generator is set to 50Ω, matching the input impedance of the power amplifier, the frequency is set to 23kHz, and the voltage is set to 2Vp-p;
3. Connect the signal generator to the input port of the power amplifier, and set the power amplifier to 40dB output;
