Do you use cmake a lot in practice? Please share your thoughts on using it, having used it, or thinking of using it. [Copy link]

Recently, I saw netizens on the forum mentioning cmake when playing with Xianji's high-performance MCU. Some netizens gave feedback:

" There are still some aspects of the HPM6750 development environment that I am not used to, such as cmake, etc., because I know too little about open source software."

Some of them seem meaningless and there is no need to learn them:

Some forum members feel it is disgusting, but they still have to learn it:

cmake is much more complicated than manual MAKE scripts. It is very difficult to learn. The main problem is that there are too many plug-ins for this thing, and there is no connection between the plug-ins. I mainly used it for a while in some cross-platform projects. I still use make scripts more.

It's OK, just a build tool.

However, I have recently begun to hate C. Who knows, after many years, cmake will sink along with C.

I have used it, and it is indeed difficult. I rarely use it in daily work, probably because the development environment is relatively simple and does not involve cmake. If the development environment is diverse, cmake will probably be used.

The main reason why I am not used to using cmake is that I have been spoiled by various integrated IDEs when developing MCU. There are actually not many commonly used commands for cmake to build a code compilation environment. They are nothing more than setting the compilation execution program name, source code path, header file path, external reference library path, and compilation optimization instructions.

You can master it with a little research, after all, it's just a tool

Ordinary players don’t need to learn it. If you want to play more complex applications, it is very convenient to manage them with cmake.

There are still relatively few application scenarios, and there will be motivation only when the demand is high
