A Baidu programmer born in the 1990s deleted and modified the database in order to make himself feel important and was sentenced! [Copy link]

On June 9, the Beijing Court Trial Information Network recently disclosed that Mr. Jin, a former employee of Beijing Baidu Netcom Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Baidu"), was sentenced to nine months in prison and one year of probation by the final judgment for suspected crime of destroying computer information systems.

It is reported that from August to September 2020, while Mr. Jin was in charge of testing and development work in Baidu's Business Quality and Efficiency Department, he deleted and modified the data in Baidu's visualization project program database, resulting in the system being unable to normally produce relevant project quality assessment data and other consequences. In order to restore the data and functions, Baidu paid 16,300 yuan to the Beijing Zhonghai Yixin Information Technology Co., Ltd. Judicial Appraisal Institute.

According to Mr. Jin's confession, he worked at Baidu after graduation, and his job was to test the company's platform and write programs. In August or September 2020, the company sent other employees to take over the project. He was dissatisfied with this arrangement, and in order to show that he still had a role in the project, he destroyed the platform's data. Witness Ai said that Mr. Jin committed the above illegal and criminal acts "due to dissatisfaction with the department leader."

The criminal ruling shows that Mr. Jin was born in July 1996 and is a "post-90s", which means that when the case occurred in 2020, Mr. Jin was less than 24 years old. In March 2021, Baidu's internal security department reported Mr. Jin to Baidu's Professional Ethics Construction Department. On March 9, 2021, Mr. Jin was arrested by the public security organs at Baidu. Later, with the help of his family, he compensated Baidu 70,000 yuan and obtained forgiveness.

The court held that Mr. Jin violated national regulations by deleting and modifying data stored in computer information systems, which had serious consequences. His actions constituted the crime of damaging computer information systems and should be punished. In view of the fact that Mr. Jin was able to truthfully confess his main criminal facts, compensate Baidu for economic losses with the help of his family and obtain forgiveness, he was given a lighter punishment and probation in accordance with the law.

It's a bit self-inflicted to seek a sense of existence in this way.

This question may not be that simple. As far as I understand, this is test data, which is "experimental". Deleting it will not cause any huge losses. It is very likely that Baidu's unscrupulous leaders retaliated against the employee, just like the "blackmail incident" of a certain Hua. The test data used by the software may be randomly generated, or it may be backed up from some real data. In any case, the data is experimental in nature. This is different from physical and chemical experimental data, which are basically virtual. Even if it is deleted, there will be no big problem. Usually, really important data must be backed up.

Stupid Hammer, if you try to make a name for yourself like this, you'll probably end up losing money and getting sent to the police station with a criminal record.

The legal department of such a powerful company is very powerful, so it is better to work hard and not do such things.
