Electromagnetism and quantum mechanics [Copy link]

 
 

Due to professional requirements, I am studying quantum mechanics and electromagnetism (electromagnetic field and electromagnetic wave). Some people say that to study quantum mechanics, you must first study general physics, and especially emphasize the importance of learning electromagnetism first. I would like to ask the experts if the two are closely related. Is the electromagnetic field the basis of quantum mechanics to a certain extent? (I have only studied a little bit) I can't see it.

Of course it is essential. If you can't master ordinary physics, then trying to enter the door of quantum mechanics is as absurd as wanting to run a marathon when you can't even stand. Moreover, if you really want to master quantum mechanics, not only do you need a sufficient foundation in physics, but you also need a very high level of mathematics.

What you are talking about is just the regular basic courses in college, plus the general physics courses in college. Even if you master them, it is only enough to understand quantum mechanics at the popular science level. You might as well take a look at the course schedule of the theoretical physics major at USTC, from undergraduate to doctoral level. What you are talking about is just the regular basic courses in college, plus the general physics courses in college. Even if you master them, it is only enough to understand quantum mechanics at the popular science level. You might as well take a look at the course schedule of the theoretical physics major at USTC, from undergraduate to doctoral level. When you really reach the professional level, you should also get a relevant doctoral degree.
