Wireless Communication RED Directive ETSI EN 301489-1 V2.2.3 (2019-11) Standard Update [Copy link]

Regarding the EMC standards in the RED directive for wireless communication products, the latest version of the ETSI EN 301489-1 V 2.2.3 (2019-11) standard has been officially released. Compared with the old version V 2.1.1, there are major changes. The specific contents are as follows:

1. The new version of the standard deleted the narrowband response related evaluation in Chapters 4.4 - 4.5.

2. Requirements are made for the security of auxiliary equipment. If the auxiliary equipment is placed outside the measurement area but is still connected to the EUT, the exempted frequency band does not apply to the auxiliary equipment; if the auxiliary equipment is placed in the measurement area and connected to the EUT, the exempted frequency band applies.

3. The performance judgment standard in the immunity test, the old version of the standard specifically refers to the judgment of continuous or transient phenomena of emission or reception, the new version of the standard does not specifically refer to emission or reception, and only gives the judgment standard of the corresponding phenomenon.

4. In the radiation test in Chapter 7.1, the EUT is no longer required to be tested separately.

5. In Section 8.3, for the conduction test of DC power input/output ports, there is no longer a distinction between ordinary equipment, equipment used in telecommunication centers, and industrial equipment. The limit values for industrial equipment in the old version of the standard are uniformly used.

6. The test list in the new version of Table A.1 is clearer, and Table A.2 is cancelled in the new version.

7. When submitting test equipment for the new version of Annex C, manufacturers should provide the following information to be recorded in the test report:

The intended use and performance of the radio equipment shall be in accordance with the user documentation;

User-controlled functions and stored data for their intended use, and methods for assessing whether these functions and data are lost after EMC exposure;

The type of modulation (also called “normal test modulation”), the transmission characteristics used for testing (random bit stream, message format, etc.), and the necessary test equipment to be provided for the EUT evaluation.

8. Annex D adds the following item: ETSI TR 103088: "Electromagnetic compatibility and radio spectrum issues (ERM); use of the EN 301489 series of standards".
