The BBC micro:bit Foundation announced that a new version of the micro:bit is coming soon and is expected to be available in November at an estimated price of $20. The new BBC micro:bit maintains compatibility, and the new version of the micro:bit (V2) has many improvements over the old version, mainly in the following aspects:

• Added microphone sensor
• Built-in buzzer
• Support capacitive touch keys
• Added power saving mode
• Using a better MCU

Software Development and Compatibility
The online editor is designed to be very easy to use, allowing you to program the micro:bit directly and add new features such as sound detection, sound generation, and touch. The latest micro:bit will fit into your existing curriculum and materials; all existing MakeCode blocks and MicroPython code will work in the same way as the original micro:bit. Previous micro:bits will also continue to work as before. More features will be released throughout 2021, including easy ways to bring AI and ML into the classroom.
