The report shows that as of June 2020, the size of Internet users in my country reached 940 million, an increase of 36.25 million from March 2020, and the Internet penetration rate reached 67.0%, an increase of 2.5 percentage points from March 2020.
The scale of mobile Internet users in my country reached 932 million, an increase of 35.46 million from March 2020. The proportion of Internet users using mobile phones to access the Internet reached 99.2%, basically the same as in March 2020.
460 million people don’t use the internet for various reasons
Although the number of Internet users is large, the number of non-Internet users in my country is also large, at 463 million, of which 43.8% are in urban areas and 56.2% are in rural areas. Non-Internet users are still mainly in rural areas.
Lack of skills, limited education and insufficient equipment are the main reasons why non-Internet users do not go online. Among them, 14.8% of non-Internet users do not go online because they do not have computers or other Internet equipment.
——Among netizens, the majority are “students”
The report stated that as of June 2020, the male-to-female ratio of Internet users in my country was 51.0:49.0, which is basically consistent with the male-to-female ratio of the overall population (51.1:48.9).
In terms of occupation, students are the largest, accounting for 23.7%; followed by self-employed individuals/freelancers, accounting for 17.4%; and agricultural, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery workers account for 15.3%.
——More than 40% have junior high school education
In terms of education level, among netizens, those with junior high school and high school/technical secondary school/technical school education account for 40.5% and 21.5% respectively; those with college education or above account for 18.8%. Netizens with primary school education or below also account for a large proportion, reaching 19.2%.
——The average person spends 28 hours online per week, which is less than before
As of June 2020, the average weekly Internet usage time of Chinese netizens was 28.0 hours, a decrease of 2.8 hours from March 2020.
——The Internet further penetrates the middle-aged and elderly population
In terms of age, netizens aged 20-29 and 30-39 accounted for 19.9% and 20.4% respectively, higher than other age groups; the proportion of netizens aged 40-49 was 18.7%; the proportion of netizens aged 50 and above increased from 16.9% in March 2020 to 22.8%.
