Loop-Powered 4mA to 20mA RTD Temperature Transmitter Reference Design with MSP430 Smart Analog Combo [Copy link]

Description
This TI reference design provides a low-component-count, low-cost solution for a 4 to 20mA loop-powered resistance temperature detector (RTD) temperature transmitter. The design uses the on-chip smart analog combo in the MSP430FR2355 MCU to control the loop current, eliminating the need for a separate DAC. The design achieves 12-bit output resolution and 6A output current resolution. The design incorporates reverse polarity protection and IEC61000-4-2 and IEC61000-4-4 protection on the loop power input.

Features
Sensor input compatible with 2-, 3-, or 4-wire resistance temperature detector (RTD) probes
RTD temperature range is –200°C to 850°C
Maximum measurement error: <1°C
IEC61000-4-2: ESD: Air discharge: ±8kV Class A
Small package size (L × W): 60mm × 8mm
Operating temperature range is -40°C to 105°C
