C2000 for Sensing and Signal Processing [Copy link]

C2000 MCUs include key features that effectively improve the performance of sensing and processing systems. In systems with control requirements, customers need accurate sensing of system parameters, low-latency processing of control law equations, and precise generation of drive signals.

These types of features help enable real-time handshaking, data sharing, and debugging. C2000 devices are highly configurable and provide control functions for sensing, processing, actuation, and connectivity.

All C2000 devices include an on-chip analog-to-digital converter (ADC)

  • 12-bit single-ended input or 16-bit differential input
  • Single ADC with dual sample-and-hold or multiple ADCs with single sample-and-hold
    • Allows sampling operations to be sequenced or synchronized
  • Achieve speed conversion from 1MSPS to over 12MSPS

C2000 devices offer SPI and McBSP digital peripherals with direct memory access (DMA) capabilities to connect to external ADCs

  • Some applications require a dedicated analog front end or an analog-to-digital converter with specifications beyond what is integrated in the C2000 MCU
  • Ability to synchronize external conversions with internal timers

The high-resolution capture (HRCAP) peripheral can measure external pulse widths with typical resolutions in hundreds of picoseconds.

Uses include:

  • Capacitive touch applications
  • High-resolution period and duty cycle measurement of pulse train cycles
  • Instantaneous speed measurement
  • Instantaneous frequency measurement
  • Voltage measurement across isolation boundaries
  • Distance/sonar measurement and scanning
