Small Automotive Front-End 16W Power Supply Reference Design [Copy link]

This design is an automotive front-end power supply that provides 16W output to a 12V vehicle battery. The first stage is a pre-boost LM5150-Q1 to maintain a regulated mid-rail voltage of 8.5V during cold-crank operation. Two downstream buck converters are capable of handling fast-crank requirements up to 40V. Also, a built-in LC filter improves EMI behavior.

44mm x 32mm slim solution
Designed to handle 3.2V cold crank operation
Wide input voltage step-down power supply handles 40V fast start operation
Low EMI solution
Output power includes 5V (1.6A rail) and 3.3V (2.3A rail)
No electrolytic capacitors are used
