What effects do different packages have on chip resistors and capacitors? [Copy link]

For example, for a resistor to be used,

There are 0805 and 0603.

The resistance value and accuracy are the same.

Size and power can meet the requirements.

So is it better to choose 0603 or 0805?

Are there any differences in cost between resistors in different packages?

Are the distribution parameters different?

Is there any difference in stability?

The same question applies to capacitors.

Does anyone have any suggestions or related information? Thank you.

It depends on the situation. Manual welding and machine welding are different.   Details Published on 2019-9-7 09:45

If the power requirement is met, 0603 is preferred because it is slightly cheaper and is more beneficial for increasing component density on the PCB, and component density is also related to the overall cost.

Does the smaller the package, the lower the cost? Cost: 1206>0805>0603>0402>0201? Is it the same for capacitors? Or is it that too small requires high process requirements and is more expensive?  Details Published on 2019-9-4 16:24

Does a smaller package mean lower cost?

Cost: 1206>0805>0603>0402>0201?

Is this also true for capacitors?

Or is it that the process requirements for the small ones are high and the price is higher?

That is not necessarily the case. For conventional RC components, 0606 and 0402 have the lowest cost, while 0201 is slightly higher. When no special process is required (including component manufacturing industry and PCB patch and welding process), the material cost is lower when the component is smaller. However, when the component is smaller to a certain extent, the process cost will rise, thus offsetting or even exceeding it.  Details Published on 2019-9-4 17:18

The size of the board is a factor.

Power of individual resistors

When routing individual resistors on the PCB, consider routing the wires underneath the resistors. A larger resistor will make routing easier.

In addition, the assembly welding process, for small batches, sometimes manual labor is used, so the component packaging must be larger to facilitate manual welding.

Stability needs to be considered in terms of brand solution

Well, it is a bigger package for easier debugging.  Details Published on 2019-9-4 16:39

0603 is the best choice for both high density and manual intervention. For hand soldering, 0603 is more convenient than 0805, especially for capacitors.  Details Published on 2019-9-4 17:20

Generally speaking, the cost of a small size is lower because less material is used. In addition, the amount used also needs to be considered. For example, for resistors, 0402 is more widely used than 0201, so 0402 is generally cheaper than 0603 and 0201.

In addition, capacitors are a little different from resistors. For the same withstand voltage and capacitance, the ESR and loss angle parameters of larger packages seem to be better. In some situations where large capacity is required, larger packages may be cheaper (because it is more difficult to make large capacity in small packages).

That may not be the case. For conventional RC devices, 0606 and 0402 have the lowest cost, while 0201 is slightly higher. When no special process is required (including component manufacturing industry and PCB patch and welding process), the material cost is lower when the component is smaller. However, when the component is smaller to a certain extent, the process cost will rise, thus offsetting or even surpassing it. In addition, the lowest cost size is different for different components or even for the same components but different parameters. The only thing that is certain is that the size-price curve is not monotonically decreasing, but has a valley value, and the package corresponding to the valley value is the lowest cost.

Special emphasis: The above costs are based on the finished circuit boards, including the cost of the components themselves and the costs of SMT, welding, quality inspection, etc.

I don't have too many requirements for the parameters, so of course I'd choose the cheaper 0603 0402 ones.

The commonly used packages are relatively better in terms of both price and spot situation.

The price of precision resistors needs to be determined based on accuracy and temperature drift parameters.

The power part uses 0603, 0805, or even 2512 according to the voltage and power. The IC periphery is basically 0402. The board with hundreds of RCs is much smaller in size. It is still very good to save three or five yuan. If soldering the board is troublesome, find a professional soldering worker. There are many in 58.com. The designer's energy should be used to think about product optimization, not to consider the problem of soldering the sample.

The package size is cheaper if it is common, and more expensive if it is uncommon.
