MAXREFDES42# is a reference design for high-accuracy IO-Link® resistance temperature detector ( RTD ) temperature sensors for wide temperature range 2-, 3-, or 4-wire PT100 RTD applications. According to industrial specifications, the design uses Maxim Integrated's highly integrated MAX31865 RTD to digital output conversion chip. A rugged, board-mounted M12 female connector allows off-the-shelf RTDs to be connected to the circuit board via standard M12 extension cables. The temperature sensor's temperature conversion accuracy reaches 15-bit resolution and has multiple fault detection functions. The display shows the temperature value rounded to the nearest °C, while IO-Link communication tracks and provides precise temperature values. The sensor uses IQ2 Development’s IO-Link device stack to communicate with any host compatible with version 1.1 IO-Link. The reference design uses an industrial DC-DC step-down converter with minimal power consumption. The circuit board also has a male M12 connector for connection to the IO-Link master via a standard M12 cable. Connecting the MAXREFDES42# to a USB IO-link host, such as the IQ2 Development iqInterface ® IO-Link host (using iqTool ® software), allows evaluation using a PC.
