Overview

Relative to operational amplifiers, the AD8138 has made significant progress in differential signal processing. The AD8138 can be used as a single-ended to differential amplifier or a differential to differential amplifier. It is as easy to use as an op amp and greatly simplifies differential signal amplification and driving. Fabricated on Analog Devices' proprietary XFCB bipolar process, the device has a -3 dB bandwidth of 320 MHz and provides differential signaling with the lowest harmonic distortion among available differential amplifiers. The AD8138 has a unique internal feedback feature that provides balanced output gain and phase matching to suppress even-order harmonics. Internal feedback circuitry minimizes any gain errors associated with external gain setting resistor mismatches.
       The differential output of the AD8138 helps balance the inputs of the differential ADC to maximize ADC performance. The device eliminates the need for a transformer with a high-performance ADC and retains low-frequency and dc information. Applying a voltage to the VOCM pin adjusts the common-mode level of the differential output, allowing easy level translation of the input signal driving a single-supply ADC. Fast overload recovery ensures sampling accuracy.
       This verification board can convert a single-ended signal into a differential signal, which facilitates early verification by R&D personnel.
