The open-source satellite project developed by Fossa Systems, a non-profit organization in Madrid, was launched in October 2019 and is Spain's first microsatellite. FossaSat-1 measures only 5x5x5cm and weighs only 250g, making it one of the smallest satellites ever launched into space.
FossaSat-1 is divided into 3 main 40x40mm boards: power system board, sensor breakout board, onboard computer and communications.
FossaSat-1 uses cheap LoRa modules to provide free and open source IoT communications around the world, allowing students to communicate with satellites for less than 20 euros.
