OPPO launched ray tracing 3D dynamic real-time interactive wallpaper at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). This wallpaper product is the first to implement ray tracing technology on mobile phones and is expected to be launched on the software application store in the second half of 2022. At the same time, the wallpaper development tool will also be launched on the OPPO open platform to support free creation by developers, artists, designers, etc.
The application of ray tracing technology on mobile phones has gradually become one of the most cutting-edge development directions of ray tracing technology. In 2021, OPPO took the lead in implementing the ray tracing technology demonstration of the "Call of Duty Mobile" scene on the Reno6 PRO Dimensity 1200 version. At this year's GDC, OPPO's ray tracing technology was upgraded again, and ray tracing 3D dynamic wallpaper was demonstrated. Through technical algorithm optimization, it can drive more complex scenes and higher-level effects, doubling the efficiency of ray tracing operation.
Compared with the previous generation of ray tracing technology, OPPO has used the computing power of the chip, its self-developed BVH solution and the optimization of the effect rendering algorithm to achieve the refraction effect in the wallpaper that was not available last year. At the same time, this ray tracing technology uses a hybrid rendering method to achieve multiple light rendering effects at the same time: refraction, shadow, reflection, and transparent light refraction effect that requires extremely high computing power.
Currently, 3D dynamic wallpapers in the mobile industry are mainly rendered offline, using pre-made MP4 videos. The dynamic presentation of wallpapers is completed by playing pre-recorded videos, which lacks interactivity with mobile phone users and the effect is not realistic enough.
This time, the ray tracing wallpaper is rendered in real time. With the support of the gyroscope and ray tracing technology, users can experience the changes in light and shadow on the wallpaper brought about by different gestures by interacting with the screen, rotating the mobile phone, etc.
The ray tracing dynamic wallpaper app is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2022. Users can download it from the OPPO App Store and enable the ray tracing function on specific models. At the same time, the wallpaper function will also be launched on the OPPO open platform in the form of an SDK, providing developers, artists, designers and others with free creation. The SDK will support self-designed ray tracing wallpapers, light source design, light effect customization and other gameplay.
Ray tracing 3D dynamic wallpaper is one of OPPO's many attempts to implement ray tracing technology, and it will also cover multiple gaming and non-gaming areas in the future.
IT Home learned that GDC is the world's largest annual professional conference and exhibition for game developers, providing a platform for technical exchanges and inspiration among game developers.
