Pixelworks Helps OPPO Find X5 Flagship Series Reach New Heights in Visual Display
Efficient color and brightness calibration for a lifelike visual experience
Shanghai, China, February 25, 2022 – Pixelworks, Inc., a leading provider of innovative video and display processing solutions, and OPPO, a leading global smart device manufacturer and innovator, today announced that OPPO’s new Find X5 flagship series uses Pixelworks’ highly efficient color and brightness calibration technology, allowing users to enjoy comfortable and true screen colors at all times. Pixelworks and OPPO have always maintained a long-term and close cooperation in the field of visual display. From the Find X2 series, Find X3 series to the most recent Find N series, they have witnessed the growth of OPPO’s flagship products from generation to generation, and jointly promoted the leap-forward development of screen display performance.
The OPPO Find X5 series smartphones released this time will include three versions. Both OPPO Find X5 and OPPO Find X5 Pro use OPPO's self-developed Mariana® MariSilicon X imaging-specific NPU and are paired with Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 888 and SnapdragonTM 8 Gen 1 mobile platforms. The other is the world's first smartphone equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 9000 flagship processor, officially named OPPO Find X5 Pro Dimensity Edition. OPPO's simultaneous launch of three chips gives users more configuration options and can flexibly meet personalized needs.
In terms of screen display, OPPO Find X5 Pro and Find X5 Pro Dimensity Edition are equipped with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 3216x1440 pixels, supporting LTPO 2.0 technology, and can achieve 1-120Hz intelligent dynamic frame rate; OPPO Find X5 is equipped with a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. In terms of display solution, the entire OPPO Find X5 series uses professional visual display solutions from Pixelworks Semiconductor.
Pixelworks improves display performance for the OPPO Find X5 flagship smartphone series in the following areas:
Efficient Color Calibration - Each OPPO Find X5 series smartphone screen is factory calibrated using Pixelworks’ patented display calibration technology, with an average Delta E<1, which means that the human eye cannot perceive any deviation from perfect color reproduction. With Pixelworks’ calibration technology, consumers can enjoy the true colors of all applications and content in sRGB and DCI-P3.
Adaptive brightness calibration - The human eye captures brightness in a disproportionate manner, and the light perceived by people is often only a portion of the brightness captured by the camera. Therefore, when the display interprets the color of the original image and presents it on the screen, gamma correction is often required to respond to the characteristics of human vision to be more in line with the real look and feel. Pixelworks' brightness calibration technology can maintain the gamma value at 2.2 in different color modes (displays with a gamma value of 2.2 can produce almost optimal colors and are used as a standard for graphics and video professionals) to ensure that the colors seen by the naked eye on the screen are almost the same as those seen in the real world. Regardless of low or high brightness ambient light, Pixelworks' brightness calibration technology can correct the gamma value to ensure that the color saturation of the screen is always just right.
“As a smartphone brand that focuses on image experience, OPPO never misses any opportunity to enhance the image experience,” said Li Sitong, OPPO Product Manager. “As a window to the real and virtual worlds, the authenticity of content and the accuracy of color expression are crucial. This is the strength of Pixelworks’ visual display technology, which has been fully verified in several previous products in the OPPO Find series. We hope to continue to work more deeply with Pixelworks in the future to further enhance the display capabilities of mobile phone screens to meet the most demanding consumer expectations in the 5G and 6G eras.”
Leo Shen, General Manager of Pixelworks’ Mobile Business Unit, said: “Congratulations on the launch of the OPPO Find X5 series of smartphones! The three smartphones have different designs and unique performance configurations, taking into account the needs of users at different levels. As a long-term partner of OPPO, Pixelworks’ visual display technology has always been committed to improving the breadth of product applicability. We are honored to have signed a partnership agreement with MTK last year to use Pixelworks’ display technology to effectively improve the display quality of the mobile platform under the Dimensity 5G open architecture. We hope to grow together with OPPO and bring consumers richer and more diverse product choices to meet higher standards of visual experience.”
