If nothing unexpected happens, Apple's iPhone 13 series will be available to consumers in the middle of next month.
In recent years, Apple's iPhone's innovation has declined, but this has not affected consumers' continued purchase of iPhones.
Compared with hardware specifications and technological innovation, most consumers actually care more about the price of the iPhone. As long as the price is right, iPhone sales will grow rapidly.
According to the latest news, the iPhone 13 series will remain consistent with the iPhone 12 series (the domestic version is expected to start at 5,499 yuan).
For Apple, it is not easy to maintain the same price as the previous generation of iPhone. After all, under the backdrop of rising global raw material prices and chip shortages, the cost of the iPhone 13 series will also increase.
What’s even more “conscientious” is that not only has the Apple iPhone 13 series not increased in price, but there have also been more obvious upgrades in configuration, especially in traditional shortcomings such as photography and high refresh rates.
Let’s briefly sort out the main upgrades of the iPhone 13 series:
120Hz high refresh rate LTPO screen
High refresh rate screens have now been fully popularized in the Android ecosystem, and there is no doubt that they have surpassed Apple's iPhone in terms of smoothness.
However, according to well-known Apple whistleblower Mark Gurman, the screen will be the focus of the upgrade of the iPhone 13 series.
Specifically, both iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be equipped with 120Hz OLED screens and support LPTO technology.
LPTO translates to low-temperature polycrystalline silicon thin-film transistor, which can achieve adaptive refresh rate adjustment.
For example, when playing high-frame rate games, the refresh rate will be automatically adjusted to 120Hz to improve the details and smoothness of dynamic pictures; when browsing static pictures or reading e-books, the refresh rate will be automatically adjusted to 0-60Hz to reduce screen power consumption and enhance the battery life of the phone.
However, due to cost and product positioning considerations, the two lower-priced models, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, will continue to use traditional 60Hz OLED screens.
According to the sales data of previous generations of iPhones, the standard version of iPhone 13 should be the best-selling model in the Chinese mainland market. It is really regrettable that this model does not support high refresh screen.
Larger camera module
It was previously revealed that the iPhone 13 Pro series will have a 6P ultra-wide-angle lens and support autofocus. It will also be equipped with a very large lens sensor to further increase the photosensitive area.
Judging from the iPhone 13 Pro Max protective case revealed by a third-party accessory manufacturer, the area of its rear lens module has increased significantly compared to the previous generation, which means that the iPhone 13 Pro Max has invested a lot in camera hardware stacking.
Unfortunately, in order to effectively control costs, Apple has not made much improvement in the camera hardware of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini.
According to a report by Mark Gurman, while the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini lack many major hardware upgrades, they will introduce new camera features tailored for professional users, including ProRes for video and portrait mode for video.
The video portrait mode can bring the subject into clear focus while blurring the background to highlight the subject, allowing users to shoot Vlog videos with unique effects.
ProRes video is similar to ProRaw photos, allowing users to record video in a higher quality format and providing more editing options.
The author believes that these so-called professionals should refer to short video shooters. With the rise of short video social platforms such as Douyin, mobile phone photography has become a rigid demand for many young users.
A15 Bionic processor with 20% better performance
In terms of performance, the previous generation A14 Bionic processor is actually far superior to similar competitors, and the A15 Bionic processor equipped with the iPhone 13 series will go a step further and continue to widen the gap with the Android camp.
The A15 will use TSMC's second-generation 5nm process technology, which will improve performance by nearly 20% compared to the previous generation, increase energy efficiency by 30%, and greatly reduce power consumption.
It should be emphasized that it was difficult for past iPhones to fully demonstrate the true level of the A-series processors.
Because of the heat dissipation problem, the A series processors cannot maintain peak performance for a long time. When encountering heat problems during large-scale games, the frame rate will be forced to drop and the screen will be locked, and even the brightness will be forced to be reduced. Therefore, the gaming experience of Apple iPhone is hard to describe.
Therefore, the author believes that the A15 Bionic processor does not need to emphasize performance improvement too much, as long as it maintains a normal upgrade range. The author also believes that the majority of Apple users hope that the iPhone 13 series will have better heat dissipation rather than just a stronger A series bionic processor.
In addition, the network communication capability of Apple iPhone has always been a shortcoming. However, the iPhone 13 will use Qualcomm X60 5G baseband based on 5nm process technology, which can support sub-6GHz and millimeter wave standards, and the network capability may be improved.
The above is the main upgrade information of the Apple iPhone 13 series that has been leaked so far. There have been obvious upgrades in photography, high refresh rate, performance, etc. Although this generation's standard version and MINI version are limited by cost control, there is still "castration".
But fortunately, the price remains consistent with the iPhone 12 series. The initial price of the iPhone 13 mini in China may be 5,499 yuan, which is undoubtedly good news for domestic Apple fans.
In addition, other new products may be unveiled at Apple’s fall new product launch conference in September, such as Apple AirPods 3, Apple Watch Series 7, etc.
Foreign media also revealed that Apple may hold two more autumn new product launch conferences in October and November, mainly releasing new iPad mini and MacBook Pro.
