Since the current mainstream is to use USB-C ports as charging specifications for mobile devices, such as most Android devices and iPad Pro, iPad Air, etc., this move will have a greater impact on Apple than its competitors. iPhone and most Apple products use Lightning interfaces, while Android devices use Type-C interfaces.

If legislation is passed, the iPhone may be forced to switch to USB-C.

The European Commission's 2019 impact assessment study found that half of the chargers sold with mobile phones in the EU in 2018 had a USB Micro-B port, while 29% had a USB-C port and 21% had a Lightning port.

The European Commission is currently drafting the bill, the people said, without providing further details. Lawmakers in the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly last year in favor of unified charging standards, citing environmental benefits and user convenience.
