Nokia has launched its latest software supporting next-generation SIM cards for operators and enterprises, as the vendor looks to benefit from an expected increase in demand for embedded and integrated SIM cards (eSIM and iSIM) in the coming years.

Its iSIM secure connection software from its Cloud and Network Services business group is expected to be available later in the third quarter.

Nokia noted that the service will support the management of IoT and consumer subscriptions on devices compatible with eSIM and iSIM, both of which are replacements for traditional SIM cards that can be remotely provisioned and support multiple profiles.

The company noted that its latest version is vendor-agnostic and works in “various network and cloud environments.” It added that adoption of the system will support current and future IoT business and operating models.

Next-generation modules in the form of eSIM and iSIM are expected to grow rapidly, with the GSMA Intelligence predicting that global eSIM smartphone connections will reach 2.5 billion by 2025. In the same study, the analyst firm found that 40% of businesses believe the technology is very important in future IoT deployments.

Nokia is one of many companies supporting remote provisioning of next-generation SIM technology.
